Breakdown of cloud technologies by the type of services:
  • Software as a Service (SaaS)

It is a sales and use model, where supplier develops and manages a web application independently and provides customers with access to the software over the Internet. The supplier bears the costs of maintaining the functionality of the application, whereas the user (if the service is provided for a charge) only pays for using the cloud-based software. The user therefore does not need to pay a one-off amount to buy a license, while the developer is protected from unauthorized use and distribution of its IT solution.

  • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

It is used exclusively by companies, since regular users since regular users do not usually need it. In this model the customer is provided with various computer infrastructure: servers, storage systems, network hardware, as well as software for the management of these resources.

As a rule, this scheme makes use of virtualization technologies, i.e. a specific piece of hardware can be used by several customers (a typical example is the splitting of a physical server into virtual servers and making them available to individual customers).

A crucial advantage of this approach for customers is that they do not need to purchase expensive hardware, which may simply stand idle – a customer only pays for what is needed at a given time with the ability to flexibly increase or decrease the amount of resources used.

  • Platform as a Service (PaaS)

Provision of a platform with specific characteristics for development, testing, deployment, web application support, etc.

With the PaaS model, all of the web application development, testing and deployment operations can be performed within a single integrated environment, thereby eliminating the cost of supporting individual environments for specific phases. This significantly reduces the cost of both hardware purchase and maintenance, as well as service costs. A typical use example is hosting services for websites.
